While working with the registry office, we had several days where we were short staffed during rushes at the end of the day or month.

My manager would request extra hours for staff when needed during these busy times so the staff would not become overwhelmed by large numbers of customers

I would come in on my days off, come in early or stay later in the day to help customers and get daily tasks done. This would sometimes consist of taking on some of the supervisor's responsibilities or tasks. 

Tasks were completed in a more timely manner, customers were efficiently helped and staff was not overworked by delegating responsibilities to more people.
